Belt Size Calculator
Find your belt size in inches and centimetres by measuring a belt or using your trouser waist size.
Suggested standard belt size
Tip: Brand sizing can differ. If you are between sizes, choose the larger belt size and compare it with the seller's own size chart.
How belt sizing works
A belt size usually measures the distance from the buckle to the centre hole, not the complete strap length. Measuring a belt that already fits is therefore the most accurate method.
If you only know your trouser size, add 2 inches, or about 5 cm, as a starting estimate. For example, a 34-inch trouser waist commonly matches a 36-inch belt.
How to measure your belt size
- Lay a comfortable belt flat on a table.
- Start measuring where the strap meets the buckle.
- Measure to the hole you normally use.
- Enter that length into the calculator above.

Frequently asked questions
What belt size should I buy for 34-inch trousers?
A 36-inch belt is a common starting recommendation. For best accuracy, measure a belt you already wear comfortably.
Where do I start measuring a belt?
Start where the strap meets the buckle and measure to the hole you normally use.
Should I choose a larger size if I am between sizes?
Usually yes, because a slightly longer belt gives more adjustment room.
Are trouser size and waist measurement always the same?
No. Brand fit and clothing style can differ, so measuring an existing belt is usually more dependable.
